Blood type "O" donation appeal for Freda Kii Nom

Freda and 3 year old Natalie
By Leonie Manau

I spent the last 3 days in the hospital and met this humble Highlands single mother and her 3 year old daughter. Her name is Freda Kii Nom. Sad story is that they have been admitted in the ward for 4 months now waiting for the blood type "O" for the mother to undergo surgery. With no mobile phone and contact numbers for her relatives, she could not advise them that she has been hospitalised.

They have had no visitors or even a guardian to assist her the whole time. The little 3 year old daughter, Natalie would always grab the wheel chair for her mum when the mum wanted to go to the bathroom. She would push the wheel chair to her mum's bedside. Close enough for her mum to get on and wheel herself to the bathroom and back. Some guardians of other patients do help sometimes. They eat hospital provided meals and meals that other patients give when they have extra.

Breakfast was 3 slices of bread, a small packet of butter and water. My heart broke as I sat on the opposite bed and watched. We shared our lunch and dinner with them. I even offered coffee to Freda who said it was a while since she has had something hot to drink. Little Natalie is soo full of life and greets and talk to everyone that comes their way. She tells everyone that she is a doctor there and had even demanded the nurses to give her a uniform to wear. Such an adorable little girl. I asked Freda if I could share her story and see if some people with the same blood type are willing to donate blood to her so they can get the surgery done and she and her daughter can be discharged.

So here I am now at home and typing this in the hope to help Freda. If anyone has blood type "O" and is willing to help Freda, she is in ward 2B at POM Gen. Not sure what the procedure is but I pray and hope that someone who reads this can help this humble mother and her daughter. This is a picture I took of both of them this morning with permission to share on Facebook. I gave them some toiletries, some coffee sachets and a mug before walking out of the ward with a broken heart.
