CEO DEEMS KLEBSIELLA OUTBREAK MEDIA REPORTS MISLEADING
Recent media reports of the outbreak of Klebsiella, a type of bacteria that causes infections in the form of pneumonia, wound infection and urinary tract infections at Goroka General Hospital has been described as fake and misleading information.
Eastern Highlands Provincial Health Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr Joseph APA announced and confirmed this with FM100 News today.
Dr Apa further said the outburst by Eastern Highlands Province Governor Peter Numu on the speculations was unfortunate as he should have approached the institution's management and technical health officers first to be informed rather than calling out from the distance speculations that are non existence.
The CEO said the truth is that they have identified diseases brought to the hospital with the newly established Diagnostic and Surgical Centre at the hospital and procured specific drugs for treatment of various diseases in recent times.
"Goroka General Hospital has in fact the lowest patient death rate this year in the country at 3.1 percent," said Dr Apa.
Dr Apa also assured the people in the province that there is no health threats in the province at this point in time.
"The EHPHA management in recent times has established immediate and long term health plans and policies with a fair financial allocations aimed at addressing all cross cutting health issues in the province."
"We are improving and we want to provide the best health services for the people, not only at the hospital but into the smaller health facilities at the district and community level."
Dr Apa said it is a massive task and they need support from the politicians and not divisions created amongst themselves.
