A female police officer (named) attached with the Family and Sexual Violence Unit (FSVU) at the Boroko Police Station has had a complaint raised against her for allegedly making mockery of a victim of domestic violence who had sought help at the FSVU.

The female victim (named) who was abused by her spouse for the past nine years first posted on facebook about her situation on the 14th of July 2019 after she was physically abused by her husband after undergoing a Hysterectomy procedure for Endometrium cancer on the 14th of June 2019.

The post was then shared by her friends and family members on the NCD CRIME ALERT Facebook page which led to her rescue by family members and Police officers from the Gordons Police Station.

On the 15th of July 2019, the named police officer attended to the case (O/B Number 62/07).

Due to nil police vehicle as told by the concerned police officer, the victim’s husband offered in giving lift to the officer to Boroko Police Station on the 16th of July 2019.

The victim stated that between 15th – 18th July, she had been going back and forth between Gordons Police Station and Boroko Police Station due to;

1. Nil Police vehicle to Arrest and Charge the husband.

2. The complaint she lodged on the 15th of July went missing at Boroko Police Station.

On the 25th of July 2019, the husband of the victim posted on Facebook mocking her plea for help.

The concerned police officer who was handling the victim’s case reportedly reacted and commented mockingly towards the victim on the husband’s post.

In her letter of complaint, the victim stated that her human rights have been violated by the very system and very person who was mandated to uphold the law in protecting citizen’s basic human rights.

She alleged that the behaviour and approach shown by the concerned police officer shows a conflict of interest and unethical to the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary values.

The letter of complaint was handed to the NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N’dranou and a copy to the FSVU National Coordinator Senior Sergeant Job Eremugo.

Met Sup N’dranou stated yesterday in an interview with this newsroom that he will look into this serious allegation today.
