REACHING SEPIKS UNREACHABLE - 'AWARI'
Last year when the East Sepik Provincial Health Authority team first travelled to remote Awari Village in the mountains of the Sepik Enga Border via helicopter the Awari people were so pleased that a team from Sepik had finally come to serve them which we had failed to do over the years.
Today I am so pleased that our Governor Hon. Allan Bird had the heart to make time to meet with the Awari Village Councillor, Mathew Mara and accept a gift of a pig leg on behalf of the people (as he could not bring a pig on the helicopter with the Health team) and was saddened by their story of isolation and lack of services so committed to building them an Airstrip and future service delivery and has committed to visiting them even though an earlier planned trip did not eventuate due to bad weather.
I am so proud to have such a leader who takes the time to listen to and care for our remote and isolated people who may not have much to offer in terms of a voting population but non the less are our people and deserve service delivery.
This is the start of greater things for our remote and unreachable Sepiks.
