PM MARAPE OPENS NEW CARDIAC LAB AT POMGEN

Prime Minister James Marape and the founding father of the nation Sir Michael Somare unveiled the plaque for the opening of the new Cardiac Laboratory at the Port Moresby General Hospital today.

People having heart problems for the first time can now visit PMGH to check if they are diagnosed, or facing open heart blockages and other heart problems and they can be operated.

Prime Minister James Marape during the opening of the new lab said under his government they will ensure before 2030 Papua New Guineans must have access to better modernized health services.

PM Marape says the government will include 30 – 50 million Kina in next year’s national budget for PMGH alone to upgrade its facilities and provide better tertiary services.

PMGH Acting Chief Executive Officer Dr. Paki Molumi said the hospital will continue to partner with the government and Australia to train more health workers in the hospital to carry out heart procedures.

The visiting team from Australia who are specialized in heart operations termed the new lab as “world class” and they are happy to work with the hospital providing trainings on heart operation.

Meanwhile, despite the opening of the lab, senior doctors and surgeons have called on primary prevention has the only way to reduce the rate in non-communicabl
e diseases.
