Health Minister Elias Kapavore says he will be asking the Treasurer to commit K10m grant to St. John each year to support the roll out and coordination of the National Ambulance Service or NAS.

This comes after the NAS agreement was signed on the 29th of June 2019 between the health minister and the Chair of St. John Council PNG.

Minister Kapavore says K10 million for St John needs to be set aside in the National Budget, with a small increase necessary each year to cover capital and operational expenditure as they open services in more provinces.

Kapavore says it is concerning to see that up to 74 per cent of ambulances in PNG, those that are managed by hospitals and health centres are out of service due to maintenance and servicing issues.

He said the St. John over the last four years, with little government support has proven itself both operationally and administrativel

y, capable of running a National Ambulance Service.

Meanwhile, St. John CEO Matthew Cannon thanked the Health Minister for recognizing the ambulance services provided by St. John in the country.
